Online Poll on ORV in National Parks Surprises Anti-Access Crowd

Associated Image

In an interesting development online, the online publication of BACKPACKER magazine ( suffered a bit of an embarrassing surprise. Very likely thinking that their mostly muscle-powered customer base would be anti-anything-motorized, they posted an online poll asking, "Should off road vehicles be allowed in national parks?" The answer was very likely not what they expected. At last count, 24,229 people voted, and 23,204 (96%) of them said a resounding "Yes!"

As you can imagine, this has not pleased the anti-access crowd much, so they haven't exactly been announcing the results from the mountaintop as they undoubtedly would have done had the situation been reversed. Don't be surprised, in fact, if the poll is not even available by the time you are reading this. At the time that this issue of the BlueRibbon Magazine goes to print, however, the poll is still available at:,3189,,00.html

Scroll down to find the poll referred to here. If the poll results are not still available when you go to check it out yourself, you can console yourself with the screen-shot at left.
