NEW JERSEY - Update to NJ Park Service MAP for Wharton State Forest Alert

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

On October 21, 2015, we sent out a land use update on the New Jersey State Park Service Motorized Access Plan (MAP) to protect the environment and encourage responsible use of Off-Road Vehicles, or ORVs, in Wharton State Forest, located in the heart of the Pinelands National Reserve. At the October 22nd motorized stakeholder meeting the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) said all roads are open while the policy is under review and that all (closed) signs will be removed by the weekend.

In our previous update, the emails for DEP Commissioner Bob Martin and State Park Service Director Mark Texel had the wrong extensions. Below are the corrected emails.

DEP Commissioner Bob Martin                    (609) 292-2885       bob.martin@dep.nj.gov
State Park Service Director Mark Texel         (609) 292-2773       mark.texel@dep.nj.gov

Also contact
Richard A. Boornazian                       (609) 292-5990        richard.boornazian@dep.nj.gov
Kerry Kirk Pfugh                                  (609) 633-7242        kerry.pfugh@dep.nj.gov

It is critically important for you to call these officials and relay your opposition to the MAP and tell them we want an ongoing working group to insure transparency and trust.

Please take a minute and call or email Commissioner Martin and Director Texel and tell them that after the November 5th, we want an ongoing working group. Also don't forget you must register by Wednesday, October 28, 2015, to attend the public meeting on November 5th. To register, send an email to whartonmapcomments@dep.nj.gov or call (609) 704-1964.

For a copy of the Wharton Motorized Access Plan driving map and brochure, and other information about Wharton State Forest, please visit www.nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/wharton.html.

The Pinelands Preservation Alliance is in full out assault mode on this and we need to pull out all the stops.

Thanks in advance and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
