Mississippi - FS Releases Proposed Management Plan and DEIS For Comment

Greetings BRC Action Alert Subscribers,

The Forest Service (FS) has released the Proposed Forest Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the National Forests in Mississippi (NFMS) for public review and comment. The draft documents are available online at www.fs.usda.gov/mississippi.  These documents are also available for viewing at all of the Ranger District Offices and the Supervisor's Office.

The Plan will guide management activities on the 1.2 million acres of national forest lands for the next 15 years. The Plan is the result of a collaborative effort between National Forest managers, partner agencies, conservation organizations, and interested members of the public.

The Notice of Availability was published in the Federal Register on February 8, 2013. This starts the 90-day public comment period, which ends May 8, 2013.

During the comment period, the FS will host workshops at several locations around the state to discuss the plan and receive input from the public. The schedule will be posted on the website. A content analysis team will collect comments for input into a database that will be used by the National Forests in Mississippi. They will review and respond to the comments and then prepare a Final Environmental Impact Statement and Final Forest Plan.

Written comments should be sent to National Forests in Mississippi, Proposed Forest Plan, P. 0. Box 1919, Sacramento, CA 95812, or emailed to NFsMSProposedForestPlan@fscomments.org.

They are expected to have the Final Forest Plan completed by September 2013. If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Long, Forest Plan Revision Team Leader, at 601-965-1629. For more information, visit the website at www.fs.usda.gov/mississippi.

Thanks in advance and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
